Commenting on the drumming in that solo has to be pointless. It wasn't about drumming, it was about the spectacle ... he could have sat on that thing and read a book and he still would have got the cheers.

Though I have to admit, it does kinda put you off doing quads for a while...

Alex VH's live solos are sheist. Band accompaniment [in VH] was killin' for the style, but the live solos are dumbed-down audience listener fluffy-Kuhh-Rap. Extreme "Quad abuse" WAY b4 this Jordo guy. But I'm sure AVH knew this. His solos were more for the show than anything else. He may have surmised that any other type of solo technique might get lost in big rock arena wash anyway [? - never stopped Neil or Boz, tho ;c)].

Neil still wins the "Cleanest, Best'est, Most Efficient, & Tastiest Rock 'Quad' Abuse Evar" award, hands down[-on the toms]...[assuming that the standard 'rock quad' is RH/LH/RF/LF.]

Don't believe me? Just listen to the solos off ESL [YYZ], All the World's a Stage, & Show of Hands again, pard'ner. Also, the 2nd fill in the middle of Tom Sawyer, the fills in the intro to Xanadu [aft the 'ethereal' opening section, when the actual song form kicks in, underneath the opening guitar riffs in 7/8], & the fills at the end of Anthem, Subdivisions, & Limelight.

To even attempt to cop, take credit for, or imitate...well, that'll learn ya's. :cP

I saw both Riot & Krokus open for Rush on 2 diff occasions. Both their drummers delivered solos w offensive extensive quad abuse. Also, the poor guys' solos were darn near drowned out by the huge crowd yelling for NP/Rush!! [Classic "Quad Abuse Kharma," or, "Dare to Have the Audacity to Do a Live Rock Arena Drum Solo Opening for Rush/Peart."] ;cP Oh, the humility - er, humanity.

Bonham, Baker, the Appice's, & Derosier deserve honorable mention [per: quads], as do many other drummers. I may have to take back the NP award thing. Barrie may have even one-upped NP in the quad dept. But then BB was a special case drummer anyways. ;c)

Official Rock Drum Solo Law # 1: when your solo is goin' nowhere-fast-as-320 bpms, start repeating those colorful quads [note: Neil is the exception ;c)]; or [if you really wanna fwy day widdle Tweedy-Boyd bwains], those sexy-sextuplets [RLRLFF]

Send em to Smith or Gregg...or for real, Vince or Novak. ;c)

Smith nailed some 6tup's in his live Journey [Captured] solos, mixing it up near their endings.

For sure! The Colaiuta 6 cylinder-turbo charged- 4.6 litre feet can do 0-60 in under 3 seconds.

"skaters" (skateboarders) here in California were into the "high top" thing way before Vinnie even thought about it. My shoe of choice was and has always been "Vans" high tops. You could order them in any crazy color combination you want. I think they actually make me play a little better (there I go again with that imagination!! [img]tongue.gif[/img] )

Animal has always been an inspiration to me!! I thought he gave Buddy a run for his money on the muppets show [img]wink.gif[/img]

But even more sadly enough, I liked Animals solo on that show better than this guys [img]biggrin.gif[/img]
